Ennis Golf Club is committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of ability, technology, or environment. We aim to ensure that our website is inclusive and usable for all visitors.

Accessibility Standards

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. We are committed to delivering digital accessibility for all users and this website has been developed in line with recognised Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA. These standards have guided our approach to design, content, and functionality, helping us create an experience that is as inclusive and user-friendly as possible for everyone. We will continue to maintain and enhance the accessibility of this website as part of our ongoing commitment to digital inclusion.

What We’ve Done

We have taken a range of steps to ensure our content is accessible:

Semantic HTML is used throughout to support assistive technologies such as screen readers.
All images and non-text content include meaningful alternative text.
All interactive elements (links, buttons, and form controls) are operable using a keyboard alone.
Headings are structured in a logical and hierarchical order.
Colour contrast meets or exceeds minimum requirements for readability.
Form fields include accessible labels, instructions, and error messaging where applicable.
No content flashes in a way that could cause seizures or physical discomfort.
The website is regularly monitored using a combination of manual checks and automated accessibility tools.

The content listed below is not fully accessible for the following reasons:

Videos

Some of the videos on our site are shared natively or from YouTube/Vimeo. These may not always have perfect captions or audio descriptions. We’re reviewing them and making changes where we can. All new videos will include reviewed captions going forward.

Lightbox Keyboard Navigation

Some interactive content, such as videos opened in a lightbox modal, may present limited keyboard accessibility.

When navigating using the Tab key, focus may move inside the embedded iframe (e.g., YouTube or Vimeo player). While focused within the iframe, the Escape (Esc) key may not immediately close the lightbox. Users may need to continue tabbing until focus returns outside the embedded content before the modal can be closed.

We are currently reviewing this behavior and exploring improvements to ensure better keyboard accessibility and a more seamless user experience.

Note: Skip to Content Link

A “Skip to content” link is provided at the top of the page to improve keyboard navigation for screen reader and keyboard users. This allows users to bypass repeated navigation and move directly to the main content.

Some automated accessibility tools may flag this element as being outside of a landmark region. This is expected and intentional, as placing the skip link before the main landmarks ensures it is encountered first by assistive technologies. No accessibility issues related to this element were identified during user testing.
